DESCRIPTION: Under supervision of a Principal Biologist or other supervisory official in a State department or local government agency, as a trainee and productive worker, works in a specialized field requiring the application of biological principles; learns to perform the various research and testing activities of the assigned area; does other related duties. SPECIFIC TO THE POSITION: The candidate selected for this position will work within the Migratory Bird Program. Applicant should possess strong organizational skills, be able to work independently on multiple tasks, work collaboratively with others on cooperative projects and to resolve problems, and must be able to lift 75 pounds. Selected candidate will be required to use small watercraft propelled with paddles and outboard engines, and will be required to train and serve as an observer in small aircraft for low level migratory bird surveys. PREFERRED SKILL SET: Preference will be given to individuals with the following skills sets: familiarity in migratory game bird banding; familiarity in migratory game bird data analysis; familiarity and/or involvement in migratory game bird management or research programs; knowledgeable and have the ability to use GPS units and handle geospatial data in GIS software; familiarity with small watercraft and small aircraft a plus. REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester hour credits in the biological sciences. NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide documentation may result in ineligibility. LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. RESIDENCY: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act”.
