SCOPE OF ELIGIBILITY: Open to candidates who meet the requirements below.
DESCRIPTION: Under supervision of a Principal Biologist or other supervisory official in a State department or local government agency,
as a trainee and productive worker, works in a specialized field requiring the application of biological principles; learns to perform the various
research and testing activities of the assigned area; does other related duties.
SPECIFIC TO THE POSITION: The candidate selected for this position will work within the White-Tail Deer Program. Selected candidate
must possess strong organizational skills and be able to work independently on multiple tasks; have good written and verbal communication
skills; have the ability to work collaboratively with others on cooperative projects and to resolve problems. Selected candidate must be able to
lift 75 pounds, will be required to age deer using tooth wear and replacement methods; prepare data analysis; participate in big game mammal
management and research programs.
PREFERRED SKILL SET: Preference will be given to individuals who have a familiarity with or knowledge in the following areas/skill
sets: aging deer using tooth wear and replacement methods; laboratory methods collecting tissue and organ samples; data analysis; participation
in big game mammal management or research programs; using GPS units and handling geospatial data in GIS software; point-count and other
population survey techniques.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester hour
credits in the biological sciences. NOTE: All U.S. degrees and transcripts must be from an accredited college or university. All foreign degrees
and transcripts must be evaluated for accreditation by a recognized evaluation service by the closing date of this posting. Failure to provide
documentation may result in ineligibility.
LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee
mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
RESIDENCY: All persons newly hired on or after September 1, 2011 have one year from the date of employment to establish, and then
maintain principal residence in the State of New Jersey subject to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L.2011, Chapter 70), also known as the
“New Jersey First Act”.
AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: Selected candidates must be authorized to work in the United States per the Department of Homeland
Security, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Regulations. NOTE: The State of New Jersey does not provide sponsorship for
citizenship to the United States.
